Awin Review: Is it Worth Joining?

Joining affiliate networks are a great way to monetize your blog. You get a ton of advertisers to choose from all in one place. Awin is one such network. But you’re probably wondering if it’s worth joining and that’s why you’re reading Awin reviews online. I don’t blame you for having doubts. So in this Awin review, I’ll cover all the good and bad details about this company. Right off the bat there are a few flags with this network that will surprise you. Buckle up!

What is Awin?

Awin.com is a global affiliate network that was founded in March 2000 by Heiko Rauch, Jens Hewald, Kevin Brown, and Thomas Hessler. They were previously known as Affiliate Window and the company was relaunched in 2017 when it officially merged with Zanox. Their headquarters are in Berlin, Germany, but they also have offices in many cities in the U.S. as well as Europe.

How Does Awin Work?

As with most affiliate networks, Awin connects publishers and advertisers. Once your application has been approved as a publisher, you apply to each advertiser individually to promote their product. Awin has a lot of advertisers, but you may want to consider other networks such as Maxbounty.com, Traffic Jam Media, iGain.com and Ezoic for additional options to monetize your blog.

Awin Features

As an affiliate network, Awin’s features are similar to other affiliate networks as seen in our Revcontent Review and our Maxbounty Review. Let’s see what’s so special about Awin:

  • Awin has an A- rating with the BBB (Better Business Bureau)
  • Available worldwide
  • 13,000 brands to choose from
  • Awin works with some very big name advertising companies, such as AliExpress, Gymshark, HP and Etsy
  • Local and international support team
  • Easy to use monitoring and tracking tools
  • Easy Convert-A-Link interface
  • Get paid regardless of when Awin is paid by the advertisers
  • Detailed Awin Wiki Guide with tutorials and term definitions
  • You can be paid in multiple currencies including: NOK, DKK, SEK, PLN, CHF, AUD, EUR, USD, CAD and GBP.

How Much Can You Make with Awin?

Your potential income will rely on the commission rates advertisers are willing to pay you and this will vary by advertiser. Furthermore the amount of traffic you have will impact your earnings. Sites with lots of traffic stand a better chance of visitors clicking on ads.

If you are looking for more traffic to your website, consider joining Wealthy Affiliate where you can learn how to get tons of FREE traffic that will increase your sales and commissions.

Your income potential will also vary according to the type of ads you have running on your website.

Ad types include, but are not limited to:

CPC: Cost per click

CPM: Cost per thousand impressions

CTR: Click through rate

CPL: Cost per lead

CPS: Cost per sale

CPA: Cost per acquisition

Your income will also depend on what type of publisher you are. There are several different kinds of publishers that include, but are not limited to: Media Content Publisher, Shopping Directory, Bloggers & Social Content. To find out about other publisher types, click here.

Either way, the best way to increase your overall blog income is to have multiple streams of income. So in addition to Awin, you may want to apply to other networks such as Maxbounty.com, Traffic Jam Media, iGain.com and Ezoic.

When Do Awin Publishers Get Paid?

Awin publishers can decide whether to be paid twice a month or once a month. Payments are issued on the 1st and 15th of each month for the previous month. Most currencies have a minimum payment threshold of $20 or £20. You must meet the minimum threshold by the 15th of the previous month otherwise the funds are rolled over. Note that any non-UK accounts can only be paid through international wire transfer or ACH transfer. For USA-based accounts, ACH is the recommended payment method. There’s no option for PayPal, Payoneer or other types of money transfers.

Awin Complaints

We’ve talked about how Awin works and about some of the features. Now let’s talk about some items you should be aware of that may make you pump the breaks. Here’s what you should be aware of:

$5 Deposit?

It’s pretty stupid and unusual to be required to provide a deposit to join an affiliate program. And while $5 won’t break the bank and you’ll get it back, you may be hesitant to add your credit card details with no guarantee of being approved. They claim its for fraud protection, but that’s a very weak excuse.

Limited Payment Options

Payments can only be made by international wire or ACH. No PayPal, Payoneer or other forms of money transfers are available.

You Are Dealing With International Law

The Terms and Conditions are governed by the law of England and Wales. So if you have a complaint, the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.

Applying To Each Advertiser

This can be a cumbersome process and probably not for the beginner blogger. Before you apply to an advertiser, it is recommended that you read their own individual Terms and Conditions to make sure you understand their requirements. Depending on your site and the product, there’s no guarantee that an advertiser will approve you.

If these complaints are a turn off for you, consider joining other networks that have similar and/or better features such as:

No matter what network you decide to join, you still need decent traffic. So you may want to check out Wealthy Affiliate. You will learn how to get tons of FREE traffic from Google with their step-by-step training program.

Should You Join Awin?

There’s no doubt that Awin is a legitimate network with a decent BBB rating. But there are a few things that may keep you from getting in the door. Working with big name advertisers sounds awesome, but there’s always the chance you’ll get rejected. Playing with the big boys usually means that the standards are higher so if your site is new or doesn’t get enough traffic, you could be left out in the cold on this one. If traffic is your problem, consider joining Wealthy Affiliate which will teach you how to get tons of FREE traffic from Google.

I guess that’s all for now, folks. If you would like to know more about Owen, check out their FAQ page here. If you are an Awin member, I’d love to read about your experiences so be sure to leave a comment. Likewise, if you have any questions, please leave a comment below.

Until next time.
