eBay Partner Network Review: Is It Legit?

Affiliate marketing is a great way to generate additional streams of income for your blog. And joining affiliate marketing networks is a very easy way to monetize your site. No doubt you’ve read other eBay Partner Network reviews. But in this eBay Partner Network review, we’ll explore whether it’s worth your time or not. The answer will surprise you.

What is eBay Partner Network?

eBay Partner Network is eBay’s affiliate marketing program and is available most everywhere. The eBay corporate headquarters is based in San Jose, CA and has several offices throughout the U.S. The eBay Partner Network allows you to become an eBay affiliate and make money by promoting eBay products on your site. This works like most affiliate marketing networks. Ebay is registered with the BBB and has an A+ rating but there’s no listing for the eBay Partner Network.

eBay Partner Network Features

This company has some great features both for promoting products and reporting purposes. Below are some promotional options for eBay products:

  • Social sharing through popular sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr
  • Paid advertising
  • Banner ads
  • Organic traffic
  • Recognizable and trusted brand name
  • Plenty of products to promote
  • You can promote other products through other programs as well

In addition to the promotional features, here are some other features:

  • Good payment system
  • Great reporting and tracking system (Smart Suite)
  • Free use of eBay graphics
  • Geo-targeting
  • Advanced search options to target landing pages

While all this sounds good, there are other networks you may want to check out as well that have similar and/or better features such as Maxbounty.com, Traffic Jam Media & iGain.com.

How Much Can You Make with eBay Partner Network?

The amount of money you can make with any affiliate network varies depending on the program and commission rates. eBay Partner Network affiliates earn commissions when someone clicks on an ad and makes a purchase within 24 hours. Commissions vary according to the types of products you are promoting. Generally, the commission rate ranges from 50% to 70%. The more traffic your site has, the more chances for clicks on your ads. eBay Partner Network Complaints

We’ve talked about the features of the eBay Partner Network. Now let’s talk about what’s not so great. While eBay’s commission structure claims to be higher and better than a lot of other affiliate marketing programs out there, here are a few complaints worth noting:

Tracking Discrepancies

Some affiliates have reported discrepancies between eBay’s tracking methods and affiliates reporting metrics leaving affiliates feeling cheated out of commissions.

Excessive Time To Address Affiliate Issues

For affiliates who have discovered problems with their commissions, emailing is the only real option and responses have been slow and/or no response at all.

Vague Commission Structure

While eBay lists their commissions to be anywhere from 50% to 70%, affiliates complain that they simply don’t understand the logic in how commissions are calculated and find the system confusing.

Referral Cookies Only 24 Hours

There was a time when eBay’s referral cookies lasted for 7 days. This allowed affiliates a much bigger window of opportunity to capture sales. Unfortunately, eBay reduced it down to 24 hours–much like Amazon.

Approval Could Be Difficult Approval Process

If you have a relatively new site with little or no content, you may not be accepted.

No Decent Contact Information

The only way to contact eBay Partner Network is by logging a ticket using their contact form. No email, live chat or phone support.

You Can Be Terminated Without Cause

According to the Network Agreement, eBay Partner Network can terminate your account without giving you a reason.

If any of the complaints above make you feel uncomfortable, we totally understand. Fortunately there are a few other networks to consider such as Maxbounty.com, Traffic Jam Media & iGain.com. Either way, regardless of of what network you join, you’ll want more traffic because it helps you earn more money. So you may want to join Wealthy Affiliate which teaches you how to get tons of FREE traffic.

Should You Join eBay Partner Network?

The eBay Partner Network is definitely legitimate. Ebay is a very popular site for buying and selling goods. But for anyone with a new site or a site that doesn’t get a lot of traffic, getting approved may be difficult. This company has made contacting them difficult when it comes to addressing any problems you may have on your account. And that may make you think twice about joining this program. Then again, there are other programs worth checking out such as Maxbounty.com, Traffic Jam Media & iGain.com. Traffic is at the core of any site’s ability to earn money so if you’d like to learn how to get tons of free traffic using proven step-by-step strategies, check out Wealthy Affiliate.

  1. This is a great review for the ebay partner network!  I have been looking for ideas for my blog to help generate more income, and this is definitely something I will be looking into.  I think that there might be products here I can promote.  I am wondering if you use Ebay Partner Network and how the returns are for you?

  2. Hi Eddy, I was an eBay partner a few years ago and the program was pretty solid. I have noticed that they are constantly updating their platform to make things easier for their affiliates.

Are you sure that their commission rates are so high though? I thought they were somewhere around 5% and 15%. Am i wrong?

  3. I’ve never really thought about advertising eBay links as a way to generate income, but it might be something to look into as I build out content for my site.

One question I do have the 50-70% you earn is it only on the eBay fees? I’m almost thinking it is as I think about it.

It’s really to bad that the cookies last for only 24 hours, but hopefully the content that is on anyone’s website is powerful enough to encourage someone to buy I guess otherwise the commission is lost :(.

I really appreciate you posting other affiliate programs that can be joined, because it sounds like joining the eBay affiliate network especially as a new niche site would be incredibly tough and I’ve never even heard of the ones you’ve posted!

  4. Thanks for bringing this review to my attention.

At first impressions, it seems the commission rates are quite generous and a great incentive. But reading on about the complaints, especially how hard it is to get hold of them when there is an issue is off-putting.

I will look at the other programs you mentioned.

    Thanks

  5. I was thinking about joining up with eBay until I stumbled across your review.  I don’t think I will now, I will definitely check out the other programs you recommend.  I think they should offer a much longer than 24-hour cookies, they have the money to do so.  I think the 7 days was way more reasonable.  Usually, when I go to buy something I’ll leave it in my cart for a couple days before I actually go through with the transaction.  Partly because I procrastinate and partly because I don’t like to spend a ton of money on things, especially if it’s not a need.  Thanks for your honest review though.  Helped steer me in the right direction for now at least. 🙂

    • Hey Kandi, I totally feel you on the 24 hour cookie. It’s super annoying. But as someone that ignored Amazon for years for the same reason, I’ve learned it can still be profitable for you. So don’t totally dismiss it for the annoying cookie period. There are a large portion of people that will buy within the 24 hours.
